Seminars and Conferences NATIONAL CONFERENCE (20 – 21 April 2011)
A National Conference on 'Strategic Management of Business Development: Issues and Prospects' was organized by Baba Farid College of Management and Technology (BFCMT) on 20-21 April, 2011. The conference was aimed at providing knowledge – sharing platform of meaningful interaction to deliberate, discuss and recommend an actionable strategy on the development and dissemination of strategic management and its application to the development of business throwing a light on the future prospects. The Conference was addressed by a number of experts from the field of research, academics, business and industry who came from different parts of the country. More than hundred papers were received and selected papers were being published in the proceedings book bearing ISBN.
The Chief Guest Mr. Harish Mehta, is a former CFO of Gini & Jony kids wear and presently, an independent Management Consultant for some leading retail brands in India. The guest of honour and the key note speaker of the first session was Dr. Gurcharan Singh, Associate Professor, School of Management Studies, Punjabi University, Patiala. Honourable Managing Director of Baba Farid Group of Instituions, S. Gurmeet Singh Dhaiwal welcomed the guests, delegates, faculty and the students. In his inaugural address, Mr. Dhaliwal emphasized on the need for free mind and innovation and encouraged the students to enhance their skills for their overall development. The book of proceedings and Compact Disk was released during the conference.

COMMUNICATION SKILLS WORKSHOP (15 April 2011)
Baba Farid College of Management & Technology organized Communication Skills workshop in the campus premises in coordination with department of Training & Placement. Dr. Gurcharan Singh, Associate professor, Punjabi University, Patiala was the key resource speaker on the occasion. He discussed and elaborated various facts about communication through a lively and listener- friendly talk. He drove home the basic idea that the ultimate purpose of effective communication is just putting the message across and delivering it in return of constructive feedback. He touched upon all the crucial issues germane to the sphere of communication. Overall, it was a very productive and valuable workshop for all the students as well as faculty members. Dr. Gurcharan singh was extended a great thankfulness and gratitude by the authorities of the group and all the students who attended it.

ENTREPRENEURIAL AWARENESS CAMP (5 - 6 April 2011)
BFCMT organised a Entrepreneurial Awareness Camp in which Mr. Balbir Singh, COO, North India Technical Consultancy Organisation Ltd. Chandigarh discussed about the various prospects of being an entrepreneur. He threw a light on the challenges that one has to face for establishing one’s own business.

SEMINAR ON EMERGING CHALLENGES IN BANKING (12 OCTOBER 2010)
Association of Innovative Managers (AIM) – a body of Management students of BFCMT organized a guest lecture on “Emerging Challenges in Banking”. The guest speaker was Mr. Neeraj Mittal, Senior Manager, Canara Bank having more than 20 years of experience in the banking industry. He made the students understand the term of nationalization of banks in India and further threw light on the fact that foreign banks and new generation private sector banks are paving the ways of opportunities for young aspirants. This has been proved as a boom in the banking sector which has resulted in improvement in efficiency, asset portfolio, transparency, in balance sheet, control on NPA (Non Performing Assets), good customer services and good GDP (Gross Domestic Product).
The students learnt about the basics of banking and the challenges being faced by various banks in the form of capital, mergers & acquisitions, etc. Mr. Neeraj Mittal discussed about the scope of rural banking and importance of financial inclusion in the present scenario. He also encouraged the students to take up some research work on rural lending and get acquainted with the basic fundamentals and facilities available in modern banking system. The seminar highlighted various fundamentals of the growth of banking sector as a whole and drove home the central idea that the banking system has all the ways and means to develop and established the commercial and business areas. So the emphasis needs to be put on the necessity of putting banking as the core learning domain for the students of management for when they enter into the industry, there are multidimensional skilled minds to work as per the needs of the global market.
